Driving Assessment

Our driving assessment program provides objective information about a person’s ability to drive safely. Whether someone is recovering from an illness or injury, has completed rehabilitation, or is just concerned about their driving skills, the driving assessment program focuses on helping people determine if they can continue to, or resume, driving safely and ways that they might improve their ability to function behind the wheel.

What is included in the assessment?
This off-road evaluation includes assessment of perception, cognition, and attention skills; reaction time; active range of motion and strength; as well as vision testing and knowledge of road signs.

How long does the assessment take?
The assessment takes approximately two hours to complete.

Who performs the assessment?
The assessment is conducted by a specially trained Cedar Village Occupational Therapist.
Cedar Village has partnered with a local driving school for the in-car portion of the assessment in a dually equipped vehicle following successful completion of the off-road evaluation.

Who can be referred?
The driving assessment is a recommendation for any licensed driver to assure safe operation of a motor vehicle. The Cedar Village Driving Assessment Program has been designed for seniors in our community. Our goal is to ensure that seniors will be able to operate a car safely and to work with family members who may question whether their loved ones are safe behind the wheel.

How do I set up my assessment?
Referrals may be made by physicians, family members, or by the individual driver. If you have a written physician’s order it should state, “Occupational Therapy for driving evaluation.”

How much is the driving evaluation?
$150 for the clinical driving assessment
$160 for the in car assessment
